Gaffer urges fans to make the trip to Wembley
Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst has urged fans to get to Wembley and support their team in the League One Play-Off Final.
Paul understands the potential financial implications for fans but feels Town’s support can help his players get over the line. “The two things that are obvious to me are it’s Bank Holiday and some people might be away. Secondly, financially they might not be able to afford that then that’s fully understandable. Any other reason, I’m struggling to understand”, said Hurst.
“Jurgen Klopp’s message was about reaching finals and not winning them. That can only be changed by keep getting into them. This is our next chance to put the curse to bed, what ever that curse is. This is an opportunity to change that.
“All I can say is if my life took a different route and I was supporting a football team and they reached Wembley, if I could afford it I’m pretty sure I’d be there.”
Paul also emphasised the importance of the travelling Town fans vocal support during the game, and how they can spur his team onto a crucial win for the club. “I think they did that well last time despite being outnumbered quite a lot”, said the Gaffer.
“The noise here last weekend and at Blackpool, the fans had a really good end to the season. Some of the scenes stick with you. We see a lot of faces on a regular basis now.
“Along the way you want to pick up new supporters and I understand things go in cycles, fans want to see certain things from teams.
“I’ve said before, I don’t think this group of players could have given much more to this football club and I think that has been reflected by the supporters. There is a strong bond there.
“The hash tag love this team says a lot and we are trying to change the clubs history as we were last time. Can we do it this time, we will find out on Sunday.”
